The impact of the English Civil War on  smaller towns and villages is often overlooked in the priority given to epoque-making events such as the Siege of Gloucester or the Battles of Edgehill and Naseby.

In this talk I look at some of the smaller actions in the area to the west and north of Gloucester, and consider some of the information which is available in different sources - not always immediately obvious.

The story of the defeat of Lord Herbert’s ‘Mushroom Army’ at Highnam, the battles of Hartpury, Highleadon and Redmarley (Worcestershire) and the evidence for local taxation are all touched in this wide-ranging but accessible talk suitable for people of all sorts of knowledge and experience.

Illustrated talk using computer-projection techniques, requires black-out.
